Fun Ideas for Using Bi-Fold Doors Around the House, As More Than Just Doors!

Bi-fold doors are commonly used for closets, or for hiding away your laundry centre or pantry. However, you might consider using bi-fold doors for many home projects, and as more than just doors! Before you head to the home improvement store to pick up the materials you need for certain projects around the home, note where and how you can use bi-fold doors instead.

Room dividers

Being able to bend the panels of bi-fold doors on their hinges allows you to set up the doors in the middle of a space, without the need for any type of footing. This can also allow you to adjust or open and close the doors when using them as a room divider. As an example, if your living room and dining area are attached, you might put the bi-fold doors between them. Fold the doors out of the way if you want to allow sunlight into the dining room from the living room windows, then unfold them and create a wall when you're using the dining room table to work and need some quiet from anyone in the living room.

Corner shelving

Bi-fold doors are great for creating visual interest in a corner of any room, and especially for apartment dwellers who may not be able to hang shelving on walls! Nail brackets for shelves along the door's frame and you have a great makeshift shelving unit you can display in any room of the home.

Desk

Open up the bi-fold doors and put a bracket or two behind them, to keep them straight. Next, add a shelf and two legs to the front side of the doors, at desk height. You now have a homemade study area! Use the top part of the doors, above the desk, for hanging baskets and other sorters and organizers. As said above, this is especially good for apartment dwellers who may need those extra organizers, but who can't add holes to a wall with nails and hooks.

Message board

The louvered design of bi-fold doors provides a very convenient spot for displaying artwork, photographs, postcards, messages to the family, and so much more, without having to put a hole through them as you would with a pin board. Using bi-fold doors to display your favourite photos can also mean being able to easily swap out those items as often as you wish, without worrying about small pins or tacks or new display frames.
